Many on Social Media Are Angered, Furious
"Merry Christmas to all!" the holiday message beings. "Over two millennia ago, a new hope was born into the world, a Savior who would offer the promise of salvation to all mankind. Just as the three wise men did on that night, this Christmas heralds a time to celebrate the good news of a new King," it reads.
The statement does not mention Trump by name but coming directly from the GOP, many believe it is an attempt to elevate Trump.
On social media, many expressed anger and outrage, bewilderment, and upset:

Pollster and senior analyst:
I mean, you can choose to accept this wasn't purposely written as it was, I guess. But it's clear the double meaning was intentional.— Matt McDermott (@mattmfm) December 25, 2016
Democratic digital strategist and Editor of AMERICAblog:
Imagine the outcry had President-elect Obama compared himself to Jesus on Christmas Day AND called himself "king." https://t.co/Iq0MjefIID— John Aravosis (@aravosis) December 25, 2016

They're really embracing the Cheeto Jesus thing. https://t.co/ckgyXdGsPf— Josh Barro (@jbarro) December 25, 2016
Guys, calm down. The RNC statement isn't about Donald Trump. It's about Vladimir Putin. https://t.co/ckgyXdGsPf— Josh Barro (@jbarro) December 25, 2016
The GOP released a press statement claiming Trump is the second coming of Christ, comparing Trump to Jesus. This is not fake news. https://t.co/FIztOHYxWB— D. P. (@captpayne) December 25, 2016
The GOP, in their Christmas press release, compares Donald Trump to Jesus Christ. https://t.co/PXceRrYTt2— R.S. Martin (@RSMwriter) December 25, 2016
The @GOP just labeled Trump as the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Yeah, I'm out for the day.— (((Stargazer))) (@TwiHusband) December 25, 2016
. @GOP spent 8 yrs w/conspiracy theories about Pres. Obama being the Anti-Christ, but immediately Trump is referred to as 'King' & 'Savior'— Dr Yule Log Ph D Esq (@_RScottWhitley_) December 25, 2016
@NastyMindy Apparently trump is the Second Coming of Christ. Interesting the RNC anointed trump "King." We may never have another election.— Dr. Georgia NeSmith (@PracticalLefty) December 25, 2016
RNC will now say "Of course we did not mean Trump is the Christ King". Tonight Trump will tweet "I am the Christ King".— David Hasper (@DHasper) December 25, 2016
Merry Christmas from the RNC which has just actually compared the election of Trump to the birth of Christ, not even joking, grab Christmas! https://t.co/ejPf4spksm— Linda Tirado (@KillerMartinis) December 25, 2016
Uhhhh the RNC just called Trump "a new King" in the context of Christ's birth. https://t.co/s5MD21jXzY— Joe Walters (@JWal077) December 25, 2016
If Democrats released statement on Christmas 08 equating Obama's win with arrival of baby Jesus, Fox News and the right would've gone crazy. pic.twitter.com/CJnujNcmWu— Karl Frisch (@KarlFrisch) December 25, 2016
Others have also noted that the RNC's statement is biblically incorrect, as the the three wise men, according to the Bible, did not arrive the night Christ was born, but at some point after.
