Breaking: Donald Trump Responds to President Obama’s Sanctions and Actions Against Russia
Trump Kicks Can Down the Road
President-elect Donald Trump issued a terse 46-word statement through his transition team in response to the extensive sanctions against Russia delivered by President Barack Obama Thursday afternoon.
“It’s time for our country to move on to bigger and better things,” Trump’s statement reads, echoing his remarks Wednesday about the hacking of the U.S. election. “Nevertheless, in the interest of our country and its great people, I will meet with leaders of the intelligence community next week in order to be updated on the facts of this situation.”
The statement is so terse it does not even mention the sanctions.
Trump did not take a position one way or another regarding the sanctions themselves, nor did he state he will overturn Obama’s executive orders which enforce the sanctions.
Should Trump decide to roll back or revoke the sanctions it will be a clear statement he does not believe all 17 of the U.S. government’s intelligence services, and trusts Russia more than America.
