Kellyanne Conway Takes a Top Job in Trump White House

‘Trump Whisperer’ Will Become the Highest-Ranking Woman in the Trump Administration

Kellyanne Conway will stay with Donald Trump, working in the White House as counselor to the president. The first woman to win a presidential campaign will become the highest-ranking woman in the Trump administration. Known as the “Trump Whisperer,” Conway guided the billionaire businessman through numerous disasters that would have ended the political career of any other politician, including the release of a 2005 “Access Hollywood” tape that caught him bragging about sexually assaulting women.

“Kellyanne Conway has been a trusted advisor and strategist who played a crucial role in my victory,” President-elect Trump said in a statement Thursday morning. “She is a tireless and tenacious advocate of my agenda and has amazing insights on how to effectively communicate our message. I am pleased that she will be part of my senior team in the West Wing.”

Conway had publicly discussed becoming the head of an organization that would support Trump’s message and advocate for his policies by rallying internet trolls to attack vulnerable Democratic senators. A Washington Post article in October named all ten.

But after the news Wednesday that Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, will be setting up his own strategy group in D.C., “just a block from the White House,” his press release states, and “in the same building as the D.C. headquarters of Trump’s presidential transition team,” as Yahoo News reports, Conway has decided to take a role inside the administration.

In a wide-ranging October interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Conway offered some insight into her role, how she does her job, and her thoughts about Trump.

“I think it’s unfair to say I’m always dutifully defending him. I look at my job, Dana, as explaining positions on issues, why he’s running for president and why people should vote for him,” she said.

Conway, speaking about the “Access Hollywood” tape, said, “I told Mr. Trump in private what I’ve also said in public or a variation thereof,” adding, “I found the comments to be horrible and indefensible.”
