Trump to Pick Anti-Environment Pro-Drilling Congresswoman to Head Dept. Of Interior

Has Extensive Record of Voting Against Protecting Environment, and in Favor of Oil Exploration Regardless of Consequence

President Barack Obama has protected more public lands and water areas than any other president in history, over 254 million acres, mostly via executive orders. That is about to be rolled back substantially.

President-elect Donald Trump will nominate the most powerful woman in the U.S. House to become his Secretary of the Interior, The Wall Street Journal reports. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Republican of Washington, holds an extensive anti-environment, pro-drilling, anti-animal record.

McMorris Rodgers, a congresswoman since 2005, has voted, as OnTheIssues documents, to open the Outer Continental Shelf to oil drilling, to bar the EPA from regulating greenhouse gases, and voted to support conservation easements.

She has voted against tax credits for renewable electricity, against tax incentives for energy production, conservation, and renewable energy, and voted against removing oil and gas exploration subsidies.

She even voted against the extremely popular and productive 2009 “Cash for Clunkers” program the rid the nation’s highways of gas-guzzling older cars and dramatically raised fuel efficiency and lowered pollution on the road.

The Humane Society in 2012 gave the Washington congresswoman a rating of zero.
