‘The President Cannot and Does Not Have a Conflict’ Trump’s Spokesperson Says

The Trump Organization has been selling tickets to anyone who wants to spend up to $575 to ring in the new year at Donald Trump‘s Mar-a-Lago resort – with Donald Trump. Tickets for 800 people have all been sold to the annual event. Proceeds do not go to a charity, but rather to the president-elect’s company. And considering that Trump’s sons earlier this month were working on a scheme to sell access to President Trump the day after the inauguration for up to one million dollars for 16 people, $575 sounds like a steal.

“Saturday’s formal event is scheduled to include a cocktail hour in the resort’s living room and patio area, followed by dinner and dancing until 1 a.m. in its grand ballroom to live music performed by the band Party on the Moon,” Politico reports, citing Trump press secretary Sean Spicer.

If selling access to the president sounds like a bad idea, it is.

If it sounds illegal or in any way represents a conflict of interest, Trump spokesperson Hope Hicks says not only is it not a conflict of interest, there cannot be any conflicts of interest when it comes to the president.

Hicks told Politico the transition team “is not concerned about the appearance of a conflict.”

“This is an annual celebratory event at the private club, like others that have continued to occur since the election. Additionally, the president cannot and does not have a conflict.”

“Cannot and does not.”

Last year Trump also rung in the new year at Mar-a-Lago, where he was presented with a special six diamond award by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences:
