WATCH: Trump Will Not Pursue Charges Against Clinton, Kellyanne Conway Says

‘He Doesn’t Wish to Pursue These Charges’

Kellyanne Conway says Donald Trump has no plans to pursue charges against Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server. During a debate then-GOP nominee Trump said if he won the election he would put her in jail.

“I think when the President-elect, who’s also the head of your party, tells you before he’s even inaugurated that he doesn’t wish to pursue these charges, it sends a very strong message, tone, and content to the members” of Congress, Conway said Tuesday morning on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Trump had also said, “if I win, I am going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation.”

It’s important to note that this is one more area in which Trump and his advisors have flouted the U.S. Constitution and accepted legal norms. While Clinton has been cleared of all criminal wrongdoing, and while there is no reason to continue the witch hunts against her, as a matter of principle and practice it is not the president’s role to determine who will or will not be investigated or prosecuted.
