When That 3 AM Phone Call Comes, Will It Know Where to Go?
Donald Trump will not be living full-time in the White House. He’s been talking with advisers about how many nights he can get away with flying home to his lavish 3-story penthouse in Manhattan’s Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue, and plans on spending weekends golfing across the George Washington Bridge at one of his courses in New Jersey, or taking Air Force One down to Florida to hit the links at his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Palm Beach.
“Mr. Trump, a homebody who often flew several hours late at night during the campaign so he could wake up in his own bed in Trump Tower, is talking with his advisers about how many nights a week he will spend in the White House,” The New York Times reports. “He has told them he would like to do what he is used to, which is spending time in New York when he can.”
His advisers “say that Mr. Trump, who was shocked when he won the election, might spend most of the week in Washington, much like members of Congress, and return to Trump Tower or his golf course in Bedminster, N.J., or his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach on weekends.”
The cost to taxpayers will be enormous, not to mention to news outlets who pay for their reporters travel – that is, if Trump allows the White House press poll to accompany him. He did not on Thursday, earning a stern rebuke from the head of the White House Correspondents’ Association.
Trump many times has blasted President Obama for his occasional golfing trips, most of which do not require air travel – when he golfs the President often heads to Joint Base Andrews, which lies just outside of Washington, D.C.
