Trump Says It’s ‘Irrelevant’ What He Thinks About Same-Sex Marriage – But Justices He Appoints Will Overturn It

On ’60 Minutes’ President-Elect Tries to Assure Same-Sex Couples They Have No Need to Fear. They Do.

Donald Trump says same-sex marriage is “settled” law, and same-sex couples have no reason to fear. Donald Trump has proven himself to be a serial liar, and same-sex couples have every reason to fear.

“It’s irrelevant because it was already settled. It’s law,” Trump told “60 Minutes” in an interview that aired Sunday night.. “It was settled in the Supreme Court. I mean it’s done … these cases have gone to the Supreme Court. They’ve been settled. And– I th– I’m– I’m fine with that.”

The President-elect was asked specifically about marriage equality and about abortion in the same interview. Both technically are “settled” law, but the President-elect did not hesitate to say he will appoint justices to the Supreme Court who are “pro-life,” and who would likely overturn Roe v.Wade.

“I’m pro-life,” he told “60 Minutes.” “The judges will be pro-life.”

Challenged that if Roe is overturned, Trump responded, “If it ever were overturned, it would go back to the states.”

So much for “settled” law.

He also didn’t care about the effect on women and families if it goes back to the states.

“Yeah, well, they’ll perhaps have to go, they’ll have to go to another state” to obtain an abortion.

And that’s one possibility. The Supreme Court could overturn Roe and outlaw abortion altogether. Same with same-sex marriage.

Trump saying he’s “fine” with same-sex marriage and it’s “irrelevant” what he thinks is correct. Because the justices he puts on the Supreme Court – who are already on a list created by the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation – will be only too happy to do his dirty work for him, and then he can shrug and say, “It was out of my hands.”

In the interview (above) Trump and his son Donald Jr. minimized the hundreds of documented attacks on women and children, LGBT people, Hispanics, Muslims, and other minorities, suggesting they were just fantasies created by the media.

Bottom line, what Trump says is “irrelevant,” but we already know what he and his religious right, alt-right administration will do.
