Trump Lies About Convincing Ford ‘To Keep the Lincoln Plant in Kentucky,’ Refuses to Delete Tweet, Apologize, Correct Record

Trump Supporter Claims ‘PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP hasn’t been sworn in yet & hes saved more jobs than Obama the apologist did in 8yrs!’

Donald Trump is at it again. Late Thursday night he claimed on Twitter that he had saved an entire auto-manufacturing plant from moving to Mexico, after talking with the CEO of Ford. It was a lie.

Just got a call from my friend Bill Ford, Chairman of Ford, who advised me that he will be keeping the Lincoln plant in Kentucky – no Mexico,” Trump tweeted. “I worked hard with Bill Ford to keep the Lincoln plant in Kentucky. I owed it to the great State of Kentucky for their confidence in me!”

In reality, Ford was planning to move production of one model of the Lincoln nameplate, an SUV called the Lincoln MKC, from a Louisville, Kentucky Ford plant to Mexico – to make room for expanded production of the Ford Escape.

Trump did not save any jobs, as no jobs would have been lost.

CNN reiterated, “that plant was never going anywhere.”

“Whatever happens in Louisville, it will not lose employment,” Jimmy Settles, a union official, told The Detroit Free Press on Nov. 9, as The New York Times explains today. “They cannot make enough Escapes.”

Unfortunately, the mainstream media hadn’t learned its lesson, Thursday night reports from Reuters and other news outlets suggested that Trump had indeed saved 100 jobs, based solely on his own tweet:

Here’s how some responded on Twitter:

Meanwhile, to many, Trump is now a hero who saved jobs, even though that’s false:

For the record, depending on source, President Obama has created between 9.3 million and 15 million jobs.
