WATCH: Rudy Giuliani Caught in a Lie About Information He’s Getting From FBI Agents

‘I Know That Even From a Few Active Agents’ ‘I’ve Spoken to No Current FBI Agents’

CNN host Wolf Blitzer Friday afternoon interviewed top Donald Trump adviser Rudy Giuliani, and caught him in a lie.

Giuliani is under fire and media investigation after announcing two days before FBI Director James Comey released his letter on Clinton’s emails to Congress for bragging that the Trump campaign had a few tricks up their sleeve that might swing the presidential election to Trump.

Speaking about Director Comey, Giuiani said: “I think he’s got a surprise or two you’re going to hear about in the next two days. I’m talking about some pretty big surprises.”

The former NYC Mayor is now in the hot seat.

On CNN, Wolf Blitzer asked Giuliani point-blank, “Did anyone leak any aspect of that Clinton email investigation to you?” referring to the ongoing investigation Comey referred to one week ago.

Giuliani denied he had any advance or inside knowledge.

“No, I’ve spoken to no current FBI agents,” Giuliani claimed, pausing, then adding, “gosh, in the last eight months, nine months, ten months, certainly not about this.” He suggested the only people he’s talked with are former agents he worked with as a federal prosecutor “on Mafia cases.”

Stunningly, Giuliani told Blitzer the comments he had made, that Comey has “a surprise or two you’re going to hear about in the next two days,” was about a new Donald Trump ad campaign.

Blitzer then read a portion of a letter from two Democratic Congressmen to the U.S. Dept. of Justice:

“This morning Rudy Giuliani, one of Donald Trump’s closest and most vocal campaign advisers, appeared on national television and confirmed that he had obtained leaked information about the FBI’s review of Clinton-related e-mails several days before FBI director James Comey sent his letter to Congress last Friday about this letter,” Blitzer said, reading the letter to Giuliani as Giuliani grows increasingly disconcerted. “In fact, Mr. Giuliani went even further and bragged about the information that he had obtained stating, ‘Did I hear about it? You’re darn right I heard about it.’”

Giuliani responded, “That’s not correct. I’ve had no conversations with anyone inside the FBI.”

MSNBC’s Steve Benen Friday afternoon, before Giuliani’s CNN interview today, made it very clear:

We’re no longer talking about speculation. This isn’t an instance in which the Clinton campaign is accusing the FBI of tipping off a top official in the Trump campaign. Rather, we’re now talking about an admission from Trump’s top surrogates, who bragged about it on national television. “You’re darn right” Giuliani got a tip from inside the bureau, receiving internal details despite his partisan role in the election.

Back to the CNN interview.

Blitzer then gets Giuliani to definitively state he did not know Comey was about to send the letter to Congress.

“So, I’ve had lots of conversations with them and they have told me a lot about the — I guess the disagreement between the Justice Department on the one hand and the FBI on the other. But it all comes from former FBI agents and it’s all hearsay.”

Giuliani a few minutes later again says, “I haven’t talked to anybody in the FBI or the Justice Dept.”

And once again: “In my case it’s simple. I’ve talked to no FBI agent. I’ve talked to no Justice Dept. official.”

A few minutes later, Blitzer prosecutes his case.

“We did some checking. You were on the Lars Larson radio show the other day and you said you are getting that kind of information from active FBI agents.”

Giuliani immediately responds: “The information I’ve been getting is from former FBI agents.”

“If I did say that, that was wrong.”

Here’s what Giuliani said to Larson last week, via The Daily Beast:

“The other rumor that I get is that there’s a kind of revolution going on inside the FBI about the original conclusion [not to charge Clinton] being completely unjustified and almost a slap in the face to the FBI’s integrity,” said Giuliani. “I know that from former agents. I know that even from a few active agents.”

So, as I asked on Twitter while watching Giuliani’s credibility melting away, was Giuliani lying to Lars Larson, or to Wolf Blitzer?

Here’s the incriminating portion of the interview. Watch:
