FEC to Trump: Please Explain or Refund $1.3 Million in Donations That May Violate Campaign Finance Laws

1100 Donations Totaling $1.3 Million

The Federal Election Commission has just requested the Donald J. Trump for President Campaign explain 1100 donations totaling $1.3 million that appear to violate campaign finance laws, according to a report at CNN. The donation entires in the campaign’s reporting could be errors or mistakes, thereby not violation the law, or, they could be violations of campaign finance laws.

During the 2016 presidential election campaign Donald Trump and many Republicans accused Hillary Clinton of accepting campaign donations from foreign governments, which is illegal.

“She’s been given tens of millions of dollars by countries that treat women horribly,” Trump said, falsely, back in June. “And countries that kill gays, they kill gays, they push them off of buildings.”

That was false, the the FEC is questioning, according to CNN, “donations from groups that had not registered properly with the FEC. But in the majority, donors blew right past legal donation limits, the commission wrote in a letter to the Trump campaign sent Monday.”

According to the FEC’s letter, the Trump campaign has between 30 and 60 days to refund the donations that are in violation of various laws, or correct the errors on their report.
