‘It Felt Pretty Good’
National Security Director James Clapper has submitted his resignation, in what appears to be a shot at the incoming Trump administration.
Clapper submitted his letter of resignation Wednesday night, and Thursday morning told reports it “felt pretty good.”
The Trump transition team has been struggling with finding experts or professionals of substance in national security to work in their administration.
UPDATE: 10:27 AM ET –
While it is expected for professionals in positions like the Director of National Security, or other important roles, to resign when a new administration takes over, they almost always stay on until their replacement starts, to maintain continuity. Also, it’s not uncommon for security or financial professionals to be asked to stay on. President Barack Obama kept Defense Secretary Robert Gates, a Bush appointee, and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, also a Bush appointee, along with at least five others.

Clapper will serve until January 20, but not past that date.
