The California Congresswoman was the first woman ever to be elected Speaker of the House, which she held from 2007 to 2011. As the Republicans retook the House majority, Pelosi was elected Minority Leader in 2011, and has held the title since.
Rep. Cummings says he voted for Nancy Pelosi because right now Democrats need someone who’s “battle tested.” Says she knows how to win

She is responsible for the most successful Congress in modern times, shepherding the 2009 Stimulus package that helped save the economy, along with Obamacare. Previously, she prevented President George W. Bush from privatizing Social Security.
This is why I’ve no patience for calls to depose Pelosi

Pelosi faced a stern challenge from Ohio Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan, who blames the Minority Leader for Democrats’ losses at the state levels in legislatures and governorships. Ryan’s position is Democrats need to reconnect with working class voters, and thinks being from Ohio lets him do that. He spent a significant amount of time on Fox News telling viewers just that.

Democrats will need the know-how of a strong leader to defeat Speaker Paul Ryan’s stated goal of killing Obamacare and Medicare.Â
UPDATE:
Pelosi had insisted she had the support of 2/3 of the Democratic caucus. That would have been 132 votes. She received 134.
Nancy Pelosi is a damn good vote counter. She anticipated 2/3 and got 2/3 +2 votes.
