Anti-Trump Protester Shot, Hundreds Arrested As #NotMyPresident Rallies Continue Across Nation

It’s Unclear Whether The Shooting Was Politically Motivated

An anti-Donald Trump protester was shot early Saturday in Portland as rallies protesting the president-elect’s victory continued for a fourth day across the country. 

OregonLive.com reports the protester was shot in the leg following a confrontation with occupants of a vehicle, one of whom got out and fired multiple times. The unidentified victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and the suspect is still at large. 

Earlier in Portland, which has been the site of some of the most heated anti-Trump rallies, police used teargas and flash-bang grenades in an effort to disperse protesters after they allegedly threw flaming projectiles at officers. 

Portland was one of several major cities where protests continued Friday night and Saturday morning, according to ABC News. 

In Los Angeles, about 150 protesters were arrested after refusing orders from police to disperse, The LA Times reports. 

“One by one, police led the protesters out of Grand Park, securing their hands with zip-ties before loading them onto school buses. Protesters who threw rocks at police were shot at with beanbag guns outside Grand Park.”

In New York City, about 1,000 people marched through Manhattan, where 11 protesters were arrested. 

“The NYPD blocked the crowd from approaching Trump Tower itself — instead keeping protestors at bay in nearby security pens,” The New York Daily News reports. “At least one man who tried to escape the police pen and approach Trump Tower at Fifth Ave. and 56th St. was quickly brought to the ground, and hauled off in plastic handcuffs.”

In Miami, protesters blocked traffic on two major thoroughfares — MacArthur Causeway and Interstate 95, according to Miami New Times.
