With Little Left to Lose Trump Attacks Most Popular Political Figure in America: Michelle Obama
Trump Just Making Stuff Up Again?
Michelle Obama has a 64% approval rating, the highest of any major political figure in America, but that’s not stopping Donald Trump from attacking her in his last-ditch, scorched earth, take-no-prisoners campaign wrap-up.Â
On the campaign trail Friday afternoon, Trump attacked the popular First Lady, angry that, he claimed, “we have a bunch of babies running our country, folks, we have a bunch of losers. They’re losers, they’re babies.”
“We have a President, all he wants to do is campaign. His wife, all she wants to do is campaign. And I see how much his wife likes Hillary,” Trump said in North Carolina. “But wasn’t she the one who originally started, ‘If you can’t take care of your home, you can’t take care of the White House?'” Trump asked rhetorically.
Michelle Obama in 2007 did say, “If you can’t run your own house, you can’t run the White House.†But as this archived New York Times blog from August of that year discusses, it was not meant as a dig at Hillary Clinton, and there are several right wing pundits who agree. The Obama campaign also at the time denied it was intended as an attack on the Clintons, noting that Chelsea Clinton was already an adult.Â
