Trump’s Comments Against Alicia Machado Cost Him More Women Voters as Clinton Opens 6 Point Lead

Seven Points in Head-to-Head Matchup

Hillary Clinton is beating Donald Trump in a just-released poll of nearly 2000 likely voters from Politico/Morning Consult, which calls it “a dramatic bump for Clinton.”

Clinton leads Trump by six points, 42-36, when Gary Johnson and Jill Stein are included. Without them, she leads by 7 points, 46-39.

During the debate Hillary Clinton told the audience how Trump called Alicia Machado, the former Miss Universe, “Missy Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping.” Machado, in a video recorded for the Clinton campaign, detailed how Trump’s remarks impacted her.

74 percent of poll respondents “heard of Trump’s comments about Machado,” Politico reports, and that “appears to have hurt Trump’s standing with women. Fifty-five percent of women said it gives them a less favorable view of Trump, and 43 percent of voters said the incident makes them less likely to support Trump.”

Trump’s performance at the first debate, widely panned by Democrats and Republicans alike, has also hurt him with predictions for the second presidential debate. Just 22 percent of those polled think he will win the October 9 debate.
