Twitter Mocks Former GOP Congressman for Tweet Appearing to Suggest Armed Insurrection if Trump Loses
‘Doing What It Takes to Get Our Country Back’
Failed former Tea Party Republican U.S. Congressman Joe Walsh of Illinois suggests he’ll allow the presidential election to play out but if Donald Trump doesn’t win, he will resort to grabbing his gun and doing “what it takes to get our country back.”
And apparently, his gun is a “musket.”
On November 8th, I’m voting for Trump.
On November 9th, if Trump loses, I’m grabbing my musket.
You in?

The far right wing activist, now a talk radio host who claims to be “the new voice of freedom,” appeared to suggest he might lead an armed insurrection, as The Week noted.
CNN’s Jake Tapper via Twitter asked Walsh to clarify:
@jaketapper It means protesting. Participating in acts of civil disobedience. Doing what it takes to get our country back.

Elsewhere on Twitter, many were outraged, and some, those more familiar with Walsh, just mocked him:
“Joe Walsh? Never heard of him. OH, THAT Joe Walsh, the one Tammy Duckworth clobbered at the polls. Got it.” https://t.co/UJujccdPeh

Walsh in 2011 was often called a “deadbeat dad” for owing “more than $117,000 in child support to his ex-wife and three children,” as ThinkProgress and others reported. In 2013 the Chicago Sun-Times reported Walsh requested a court to allow him to stop paying his child support payments because he was no longer employed.
In July, U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison asked the DOJ “to investigate whether a former U.S. congressman’s tweet ‘constitutes a terroristic threat against’ President Barack Obama, warning that its language could ‘incite violence.'”
