NJ Judge Rules Sufficient Probable Cause for Bridgegate Case Against Chris Christie to Move Forward

Case Will Move to County Prosecutor’s Office

Bergen County, New Jersey Judge Roy McGeady has ruled there is sufficient probable cause for a citizen’s complaint against Gov. Chris Christie in the Bridgegate scandal to move forward.

Retired fire fighter Bill Brennan filed the complaint former Port Authority official and Christie appointee David Wildstein gave testimony stating the New Jersey Republican governor knew about the intentional lane closures on the George Washington Bridge, which Christie denies. Brennan says Christie could have stopped them if he chose to. Those 2013 closures were retribution against a local Democratic mayor who refused to endorse Christie’s re-election bid.

“McGeady said the case would now go to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, who will decide whether to bring an indictment against Christie,” NJ.com reports. “The prosecutor, Gurbir S. Grewal, a Christie appointee, would probably recuse himself, McGeady said.”
