How Damaging Was Trump’s Refusal to Say if He’ll Accept Election Results? The RNC Just Overruled Him

That’s Disqualifying. That’s Game-Over. The End. ‘Fin.’

Donald Trump toward the end of Wednesday night’s debate refused to say he would accept the results of the election. It was a moment some have called “disqualifying.”

Trump told debate moderator Chris Wallace of Fox News, “I will look at it at the time.”

“What I’m saying is that I will tell you at the time,” he continued. “I’ll keep you in suspense.”

How damaging was this?

If he had any chance of winning the election, it disappeared the moment those words left his lips.

Even conservatives say he “blew it” with that position.

This is the top story to come out of the debate, and it will likely be the top story Thursday.

The AP reports it as “Threatening a fundamental pillar of American democracy.”

But it was so damaging, so disqualifying the RNC had to step in and overrule him. ABC News reports, “Sean Spicer, the Republican National Committee’s communications director, told ABC News after the debate that Trump will ‘accept the results of the election. One hundred percent.'”

“I think right now he’s very concerned about the bias that exists in the media,” Spicer said. “I think he wants to make sure people … are focused on the election. But he will accept the results. No question about it.”

No question about it?

Trump stated point blank, “I will look at it at the time.”

That’s disqualifying. That’s game-over. The end. ‘Fin.’

Not just Sean Spicer. RNC Chair Reince Priebus also had to step in:

“He is going to accept the results of the election,” Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus told NBC News after the debate, adding that Trump is going to win.
