Mike Pence Won The VP Debate By Constantly and Repeatedly Lying About Donald Trump’s Record
‘The Emerging Media Consensus That Pence Won Is Only True if We Ignore the Fact That Pence Lied His Ass Off for 90 Minutes’
Mike Pence “won” the debate. The Republican vice presidential nominee was more polished than Tim Kaine, absolutely. Pundits and pollsters and many on social media seemed to echo that viewpoint. But Mike Pence “won” because he lied, as Jeer Heet the Senior Editor of The New Republic, and others made clear:
2. The emerging media consensus that Pence won is only true if we ignore the fact that Pence lied his ass off for 90 minutes.

“Mike Pence just lied for 90 minutes straight but he was SO CALM ABOUT IT.” -all media #VPDebate

Yes Pence was more comfortable in front of the cameras. He’s a former radio host and he sounds like it. So fuckin what? He lied.

You can’t say Mike Pence won the debate “on style” and then admit that he lied the whole time about his running mate’s positions. #VPDebate

Pence, in fact, lied through and through, leading many to wonder if he’s ever actually met Donald Trump.Â
This debate was genuinely remarkable. It was like you were watching Mike Pence discover he was Donald Trump’s running mate in real time.
— Rob Flaherty (@Rob_Flaherty) October 5, 2016
I’m confident at this point that Mike Pence has never actually met Donald Trump. #VPDebate

#VPDebate Pence shakes his head when he hears Trump quotes. Have they met?
— Paula Poundstone (@paulapoundstone) October 5, 2016
Has Pence actually met Trump or know anything his running mate has actually said? #VPDebate

Pence lied so much about Donald Trump’s record and comments, a new word was coined:
Attn @MerriamWebster! New word coined at #VPDebateÂ
PENCING (adjective): vehemently denying ur boss said something he most definitely said
— igorvolsky (@igorvolsky) October 5, 2016
But Pence even lied about his own record, claiming during the debate he never said Putin was a stronger leader than Barack Obama, despite evidence to the contrary:

Politico listed “6 things Trump definitely said that Pence claimed he didn’t,” including on Trump releasing his taxes, social security, insults, Vladimir Putin, nuclear weapons, and abortion.
The Clinton campaign quickly put together more proof of Pence’s lying:

Others also were clear about Pence’s lying:
1: There were maybe 20 times in that debate where Kaine said Trump did X and Pence flatly denied it, even though we all saw X happen.
— Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) October 5, 2016
There’s no doubt that Pence is a great performer. But for 90 minutes, he lied about everything his running mate said.

This is the problem for Pence. However well or poorly he did, he distanced himself from and lied about Trump. He did his ticket no favors. https://t.co/R9uPjRcySl
