Indiana Parade Float Depicts Clinton In Electric Chair, With Trump Flipping Switch

The Aurora Farmers Fair Describes Itself As “Four Days Of Quality Family Entertainment”

A parade float depicting Hillary Clinton in an electric chair with Donald Trump throwing the switch has brought national attention to Aurora, Indiana’s Farmers Fair, The Washington Post reports.

The Aurora Farmers Fair, sponsored annually by the Aurora Lions Club since 1909, describes itself as “four days of quality family entertainment.” A public event, locals enter a float for the two-hour themed parade held each year.

According to their website, this year’s theme was “Celebrating the Past, Embracing the Future,” and fair officials “reserve the right to reject or evict any entry from the parade line-up that they deem unsuitable.” The entry form also requires entrants to supply a description of each entry.

“It’s all in fun,” float creator Frank Linkmeyer, 76, said of his design. The float also featured an Obama-labeled Easter Island moai head painted in black face, a grim reaper, a clergyman, Trump-Pence campaign signs and hand-written messages about Benghazi and making America great again.

Linkmeyer further said that he has a long history of spoofing people in his parade entries. “Police officers, judges, nurses, doctors, heart transplant patients … the people in Aurora and the surrounding area love to see us in the parade.”

Aurora resident and mother Penny Britton disagreed, disavowing the float via social media.

“Who thinks this is appropriate for a fair parade where children, some of them minorities and girls, are marching and playing instruments and watching? Who thinks this is something to laugh at or be proud of? This is disgusting,” she said. “This makes me embarrassed to say I live here. This is Aurora, Indiana. Congratulations.”

For its part, the Aurora Lions Club issued the following official statement via its website:

The Aurora Lions Club regrets the display which was part of the Aurora Farmers Fair parade on October 1st which offended some viewers. The parade is a public venue which does not reflect the views of the Aurora Lions Club. As a member of a worldwide service organization, we are proud and standby our record of service to this community. We appreciate the high levels of support and the esteem given to us by our citizens. We will continue to do our best to live up to their standards. We hope the political circus of this year’s election stays with the national media.

“Laughter is the best medicine in life and this country needs more laughter,” Linkmeyer said. The people that are offended by [the float], I’m sorry. Don’t come to the parade next time.”

It is unclear if Mike Pence, Indiana’s Governor, remains shocked that the Trump campaign could be called insult-driven because Hillary Clinton referred to a portion of their supporters as deplorable.
