‘Trump Backers Have Become Less Likely to Vote’
Hillary Clinton is beating Donald Trump by 12 points among likely voters in the just-released Monmouth University poll, tripling her lead from four points just three weeks ago. Clinton has now earned 50 percent of the vote, against Trump’s 38 percent in a four-way race, with Gary Johnson garnering 5 percent and Jill Stein 2 percent.
“Clinton has increased her lead among all registered voters, but the main difference between this month and last month is that her supporters have become more enthusiastic, and thus more likely to turn out while Trump backers have become less likely to vote,” Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, said in a statement.
62 percent of voters told Monmouth they believe “claims of unwanted sexual advances by Trump that were made public by a number of women in the past week are credible,” though only 29 percent of Trump supporters believe them.
Meanwhile, eight in ten Clinton voters say recent revelations about Donald Trump, including the “Access Hollywood” tape and the allegations by over a dozen women of sexual assault or inappropriate behavior make the Republican candidate “unfit” to be president.Â
Conversely, nearly nine in ten Trump supporters disagree.
Almost twice as many voters regardless of party say Clinton rather than Trump has the right temperament to be President. 31 percent say Trump does, 60 percent say Clinton does.
