Clinton, in Key Battleground State, Beating Trump by 15 Points in New Poll

Ahead of Debate Clinton Picks Up Large Margin in Key Battleground State of New Hampshire

Hillary Clinton is now beating Donald Trump by 15 points in the once conservative state of New Hampshire. In July, the Granite State was the only one in New England that was leaning towards Trump, but now it has swung fully the other way, as a just-released poll by WMUR/University of New Hampshire Survey Center shows.

Clinton beats Trump 48-33, with 7 points going to Gary Johnson and 2 points to Jill Stein. For a smaller state, the poll sample is relatively large, 907 adults, including 770 self-described likely general election voters. It was conducted October 11-17, which includes much of the time when Trump was embattled by allegations of sexual assault and misconduct.

“Donald Trump’s problem is that sex sells in American politics,” UNH Survey Center Director Andrew Smith says. “All of this salacious material will attract the media and the voters’ attention to a greater degree than political scandals and Wikileaks files.”

In July the WMUR poll found Clinton and Trump tied, 37-37.

The RealClearPolitics New Hampshire average puts Clinton +4.7 points, not including this new WMUR poll. Nationally, the RealClearPolitics average has Clinton leading Trump by 6.5 points.
