Clinton Has 10 Point Lead Over Trump in First Poll to Include Second Presidential Debate

But Trump Is Regaining Support

Hillary Clinton is beating Donald Trump by 10 points in a just-released NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll that spans from the day after the 2005 Trump tape was released through after the second presidential debate. Clinton earns 50% to Trump’s 40% in a head-to-head matchup. In a four-way race with both third-party candidates included, Clinton bests Trump by 9 points, 46% to 37%.

In an earlier NBC News/WSJ poll taken after the release of the 2005 tape but before the second presidential debate, Clinton beat Trump by 14 points in a head-to-head contest, and by 10 points in a four-way race.

Trump is regaining some lost ground, despite calls by some Republican leaders for him to drop out of the race.

“After a weekend pause, Republicans once again consolidated in support of Trump,” said Republican pollster Bill McInturff, of Public Opinion Strategies which conducted the survey, along with Democratic pollster Peter Hart, for NBC/WSJ.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, since Republican voters handed Trump the nomination despite his lies and bigotry, Trump’s support actually grew substantially after Sunday’s debate.

Before Sunday’s presidential debate, 47 percent said the tape was disqualifying. After the debate, that figure dropped to 42%.

And 89% of Republicans in post-debate polling told NBC/WSJ pollsters they would vote for Trump over Clinton. That number had been 74% just before the debate.

More Republican voters after the debate also want lawmakers in Congress to support Trump, up to 45% after the debate from 39% before.
