UPDATING: NY Attorney General Issues Cease and Desist Order to Donald Trump’s Foundation

Foundation Ordered to Stop Fundraising

The New York State Attorney General’s office has just issued a cease and desist order to the Donald J. Trump Foundation, charging it is not licensed to fundraise in New York.

The order states that Trump’s foundation “is violating state law — by soliciting donations without proper certification,” The Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold reports, “and ordered Trump’s charity to stop its fundraising immediately.”

NBC News’ Katy Tur and The Washington Post’s Fahrenthold both broke the news.

According to tax records, Trump’s foundation has subsisted entirely on donations from others since 2008, when Trump gave his last personal donation,” the Post reports. “This year, the Trump Foundation made its most wide-ranging request for donations yet: it set up a public website, donaldtrumpforvets.com, to gather donations that Trump said would be passed on to veterans’ groups.”
