Ben Carson: “It Doesn’t Matter” Whether Sexual Assault Allegations Against Trump Are True

Surrogate For GOP Nominee Says Women’s Accusations “Can Be Taken Care Of Later”

Trump surrogate Ben Carson said Friday morning that “it doesn’t matter” whether the women who’ve accused GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump of sexual assault are telling the truth.

Carson made the comments during an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, where he also suggested the allegations are part of a conspiracy to get Americans “to take their eye off the ball” — which could ultimately lead to the downfall of the country.

“It doesn’t matter whether they’re lying or not,” Carson said. “What matters is that the train is going off the cliff, we’re taking our eye off of that, and we’re getting involved in other issues that can be taken care of later.”

Earlier, Carson said he has no insight into what evidence Trump reportedly plans to present refuting the allegations, including that he sexually assaulted a woman on an airplane. But Carson added that he does have “common sense.”

“If somebody’s sitting next to you in the first class section of the airplane, there are stewardesses, there are other people around, and there’s this gigantic armrest,” Carson said. “What happened to all those things?”

Co-host Katty Kay then noted that the reason many sexual assault victims don’t come forward is they don’t think people will believe them, asking Carson point blank whether he’s suggesting the women are lying. The question prompted a heated exchange between Carson and Kay, in which he asked whether her mic could be turned off.

“What we’re engaging in is exactly what happens to pinnacle nations historically before their fall,” Carson said. “They take their eye off the ball, start engaging in things that really don’t matter that much, not that sexual language and abuse is not important.

“Here’s what we need to be thinking about,” he added. “I love the fact that all of a sudden you want to talk about morality in our country. I would love us to bring back our Judeo-Christian values and begin to teach those things and emphasize them at a time other than a political election, but right now the train is going off the cliff.”
