Hillary Clinton’s lead over Donald Trump has slipped from 12 points to just 2 points in the latest ABC News/Washington Post tracking poll.Â
One week ago, Clinton led Trump 50-38 percent. But according to results released Saturday morning, Clinton’s lead has dwindled to 47-45 percent.Â
ABC News reports that the shift is due mostly to “changes in who’s intending to vote,” as opposed to people switching candidates. For example, the number of registered Republicans who identified as likely voters increased from 75 percent to 81 percent.Â
In addition, some Republicans are returning to Trump after moving away from the GOP nominee in the wake of the scandal over his videotaped remarks advocating sexual assault. And some of Clinton’s supporters appear less likely to vote because they feel she can win without them, which ABC News calls “a supposition that looks less reliable today.”Â
Notably, the poll was conducted before FBI Director James Comey alerted Congress on Friday that the agency is reviewing new emails in connection with its investigation into Clinton’s use of a private server. Â
Despite the ABC News poll, the latest projection from The New York Times, also released Saturday morning, still puts Clinton’s chances of winning at 91 percent. According to the NYT, Clinton’s chances of losing are similar to the odds of an NFL kicker missing a 31-yard field goal.Â
