WATCH: Campaigning for Clinton, Michelle Obama Warns a ‘Protest Vote’ Could Help Elect Trump

‘The Stakes Are Far Too High to Take That Chance’

Michelle Obama spoke to students at La Salle University Wednesday afternoon, warning them that either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will win the White House in November, and if they choose to not vote, or cast a “protest vote,” Trump could land in the Oval Office.

“Elections aren’t just about who votes, but who doesn’t vote,” the First Lady told her Philadelphia audience. “And that’s especially true, for young people like all of you.”

“Each of you could swing an entire precinct, just by getting yourselves, your family, your classmates out to vote – that’s all you have to do,” Obama urged. “That’s it. You can do it, you have the power. But you could also help swing an entire precinct for Hillary’s opponent with a protest vote, or by staying home out of frustration,” she warned.

“Because here’s the truth: Either Hillary Clinton or her opponent ill be elected president this year. And if you vote for someone other than Hillary, or if you don’t vote at all, then you are helping to elect Hillary’s opponent. And the stakes are far too high to take that chance.”

Obama, without mentioning Donald Trump, also reminded students and faculty that “a president can’t just pop off, or lash out irrationally.”

And she concluded, “Don’t let anyone ever take away your hope. That’s what makes America great.”
