Trump Surrogate: Taco Trucks Are OK, But Not Mexican Immigrants Who Are ‘Stealing The Hubcaps’

Andre Bauer Uses Racial Stereotype to Defend Remark from Latinos for Trump Founder

Donald Trump surrogates are doing their best to to put a positive spin on Thursday’s now-infamous statement from Latinos for Trump founder Marco Gutierrez, who warned that if the GOP nominee loses, there will be “taco trucks on every corner.”

Among them is Republican former South Carolina Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, who used a disgusting racial stereotype on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday to explain why he “likes the taco truck analogy.”

“Those are people that are business owners, they’re working hard,” Bauer said of taco truck operators. “We just don’t want the people here that are stealing the hubcaps.”

CNN’s Jake Tapper responded by pointing out that Gutierrez was actually saying taco trucks are a bad thing.

Earlier in the segment, another Trump surrogate — Rachel Campos-Duffy — similarly attempted to flip Gutierrez’s statement against Democrats, who’ve been using it to their advantage.

“What I think is really interesting is that taco trucks really are the ultimate symbol of American entrepreneurial capitalism,” Campos-Duffy said. “And I think what people want to know is not what some first-time surrogate fumbled, what they want to know about is who is going to help people who want to start taco trucks.

“And liberal policies have always over-regulated food trucks,” she said. “What people want to know is who is going to help people start businesses, let them grow, become financially independent. Liberals over-regulate these kind of small business owners and conservatives help them achieve their dreams.”

“Excellent pivot,” Tapper responded.

“I have never seen spin like that,” said Clinton surrogate Bakari Sellers.
