Trump’s New ‘Special Deportation Task Force’ Would Deport 6.5 Million on ‘Day One’ of His Presidency

‘Call It Whatever the Hell You Want. They’re Gone’

Wednesday night in an anti-immigrant speech in the state known for its anti-immigrant policies Donald Trump delivered what he called a “detailed policy speech” on immigration. While it was low on policy and high on hate, Trump managed to give enough specifics for The Washington Post to calculate that 6.5 million people would be immediately deported by what Trump called his “special deportation task force.”

“The police and law enforcement — they know who these people are. They live with these people. They get mocked by these people,” Trump told the ginned-up crowd in Phoenix, desperate for red meat after weeks of campaign lies and obfuscation about Trump’s immigration policies. “They can’t do anything about these people, and they want to. They know who these people are. Day one, my first hour in office, these people are gone.”

Up to 2 million people would be subject to immediate deportation based on having violated any laws, including misdemeanors. That number would more than double to 4.5 million to include people who have overstayed their visas.

The Washington Post concludes in total, “the number of individuals prioritized for removal by ICE agents would range between about 5.0 and 6.5 million, according to available data and estimates.”

“And you can call it deported if you want. The press doesn’t like that term. You can call it whatever the hell you want. They’re gone,” Trump told supporters, who by the end of his 75 minute speech were enthralled.

“We will break the cycle of amnesty and illegal immigration. We will break the cycle. There will be no amnesty,” Trump said, refuting rumors and suggestions made by him and his campaign over the past few weeks there would be a “softening” and a “pivot” on his policies.

There is no softening and no pivot. Trump is going for all-out, hard-core anti-immigrant hate, so much so that halfway through his speech comparisons to Hitler an Neo-Naziism were flying on social media.

“Our message to the world will be this. You cannot obtain legal status or become a citizen of the United States by illegally entering our country. Can’t do it.”

“Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation. That is what it means to have law,” Trump said, meaning that likely well over 11 million people are today living in heightened and desperate fear.

Ultimately, Trump’s goal, as he mentioned in his speech, is to greatly reduce the number of immigrants in America, by deporting all 11+ million, and then vastly changing America’s policies so fewer immigrants are allowed legal entry.
