Reporter Arrested At Trump Rally As GOP Nominee Renews Attacks On Media
Campaign’s Disdain for Press Appears to Reach Disturbing New Heights
A reporter was arrested outside a Donald Trump rally in Houston on Saturday, as the GOP nominee’s disdain for the media appeared to reach disturbing new heights.Â
According to VICE News, reporter Alex Thompson was charged with trespassing after entering the lobby of the Omni hotel, where Trump was speaking to an anti-immigration group.
.@HoustonPolice told us our reporter, @AlxThomp, is on “investigative hold†and it may be hours before we know more: https://t.co/9YokNTXZVL

Thompson reportedly had requested media credentials to the rally earlier in the week, but was told his status was “pending.” He was arrested minutes after entering the lobby to ask Trump’s communications staff whether a final decision had been made on press access.Â
Coincidentally, Vice is suing the IRS for audits of Trump’s tax returns. https://t.co/DJsdKeuttE https://t.co/PaZHGYLugO

Thompson’s arrest came hours after Trump viciously attacked both CNN and a New York Times columnist on Twitter, in the wake of his disastrous day on the campaign trail.Â
On Friday, CNN accurately reported on Trump’s campaign event at his new hotel in Washington, which anchor Jake Tapper called “a political rickroll.”Â
That apparently prompted Trump to retaliate on Saturday morning when he referred to an “anti-Trump panel” on CNN as “mostly losers in real life.”Â
.@CNN just doesn’t get it, and that’s why their ratings are so low – and getting worse. Boring anti-Trump panelists, mostly losers in life!

Then, Trump went after Pulitzer Prize-winning NYT columnist Maureen Dowd, who criticized the GOP nominee during an appearance on CNN to talk about her new book.Â
Wacky @NYTimesDowd, who hardly knows me, makes up things that I never said for her boring interviews and column. A neurotic dope!

Crazy Maureen Dowd, the wacky columnist for the failing @nytimes, pretends she knows me well–wrong!

Several Twitter users noted that Trump only uses the word “neurotic” when referring to women:Â
Fascinating. When Trump has called someone “neurotic” on Twitter, the target has consistently been a woman. https://t.co/easpYti38d

The kinder gentler outreach 2 women voters continues by labeling a Pulitzer winner a “neurotic dope.” @NYTimesDowd https://t.co/ZgAoPJez3U

“Nervous†and “neurotic†are his favorite insults for women. @xeni

You can dislike Dowd, CNN or Gates and still acknowledge this is insane behavior for a person running for President. pic.twitter.com/ZlZjigQR2y
