Kentucky Family Court Judge Says Same-Sex Marriage Is an ‘Oxymoron’ Like ‘Jumbo Shrimp’

‘I Don’t Hug the Way I Used To’

Fayette, Kentucky Circuit Court Judge Tim Philpot says that same-sex marriage is an “oxymoron,” like “jumbo shrimp” or “magnificent Chihuahua.” Philpot, who was re-elected to the bench in 2014 and runs a family court that hears adoption cases, including for same-sex couples, will not face voters again until 2022.

Judge Philot, who served as the president of an international Christian ministry for seven years, “said he loves homosexuals but their relationships are ‘sterile’ and ‘just entertainment.'” the Courier-Journal reports. Philpot made these remarks, and many more, while speaking to the Francis Asbury Society, which says its mission is to “spread the message of Scriptural holiness to the ends of the earth in accordance with the Great Commission.”

Philpot didn’t stop there, however. He told the audience the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2015 same-sex marriage ruling was, “pretty close to insane,” and insisted, “there is no question that polygamy is on the way.” The Courier-Journal notes Philpot claims “the [Supreme Court] said ‘there is no rational basis for you to think that marriage is between a man and a woman.'”

But he reserved his greatest criticism for what he sees as a negative effect same-sex marriage has on children, including calling the acceptance of LGBT equality child “abuse.”

“Now kids not only have to decide which girl to date, or which boy to date, they’ve got to decide which gender to date,” Philpot said, in the video below. “There is not a 12-year-old or 13-year-old or a 14-year-old in Fayette County, Kentucky, that doesn’t have to decide ‘Am I gay or am I straight?’ Man, I’m telling you, that is some kind of abuse.”

Philpot also lamented that acceptance of same-sex marriage has changed how he relates to other men – and rainbows.

“I meet with men four or five times a week and we hug; we love each other at a certain level,” the judge told his audience. “I don’t hug the way I used to.”

He also said he’s taking back the rainbow from the LGBT community.

“I’m gonna put one on the back of my car because I’m not going to let them steal it,” Philpot said. “I’m gonna take it back. I’m gonna drive around town with my rainbow and my 8-pound Shorkie and let them think what they want.”

And he relayed an incident at a local Starbucks, where he saw a man he says was about 45-years old with his arm around another man on his 20s. Philpot said they could have been father and son, he was unsure, but they made him “uncomfortable” because they were “getting a little too close.”

In the past, Philpot has a called being gay a “destructive lifestyle” and said it’s a “behavior, it’s not genetic.”

Despite all this, Philpot insists he rules objectively.

“My views on the deep spiritual nature of marriage have never stopped me from following the law and being fair to all people, including those who identify themselves as LGBT,” he told the Courier-Journal.
