John Boehner Joins Second-Largest US Tobacco Company as a Director

As Congressman Was Busted for Handing Out Checks From Big Tobacco Lobbyists on House Floor

The tobacco company that manufactures Camel, Newport, Pall Mall, and other cigarettes has just announced John Boehner has been elected to serve on their Board of Directors. The former Speaker of the House will serve on the board of Reynolds American, the nation’s second-largest tobacco company.

In 1995, then Rep. Boehner was caught handing out checks to his fellow congressmen from tobacco companies literally during a House vote on a bill that would eliminate $49 million in subsidies from U.S. taxpayers to the tobacco companies.

The bill failed.

Boehner would go on to accept nearly half a million dollars from big tobacco during his time in office.
