Rep. Gohmert Urges Prayer for Clinton: ‘There’s Special Needs There. There’s Mental Impairment’

Christian Conservatives Howl and Clap at GOP Congressman Mocking Former Secretary of State

U.S. Congressman Louie Gohmert Friday morning mockingly told Christian conservatives they should pray for Hillary Clinton because, he says, she is “mentally impaired.” The six-term Texas Tea Party Republican said at the annual Values Voter Summit pretended to chastise himself for comments he made recently, saying Clinton’s “brain is in a blender.”

“You don’t make fun of people who are impaired, have special needs,” Rep. Gohmert told the largely evangelical Christian audience. “And whether you like her or not, Hillary Clinton has made clear she is mentally impaired,” he continued, as Right Wing Watch’s Kyle Mantyla reported.

As the audience began to laugh, Gohmert added, “This is not somebody you should be making fun of.”

The audience began to clap.

“Maybe it was the concussion, the fall back when she did. Or maybe, who knows, they won’t tell us what’s really going on with her,” he said.

Gohmert then talked about “a two-pound sledge” that he would have used to destroy cell phones, referring to news an aide used a hammer to destroy Clinton’s old phones (to which WIRED said they “should have wrecked them more thoroughly.”)

“Well who knows, maybe somebody got to wailing around,” Gohmert continued, waving a imaginary sledge hammer, and suggesting the tool used to destroy the phones “hit her again.”

“I don’t know.”

“We need to be praying for Hillary Clinton,” he continued. “There’s special needs there, there’s mental impairment,” he said, as the audience continued to laugh about Gohmert’s suggestion someone whacked the former secretary of state with a blunt object.

“I got that stupid song in my head that Rush Limbaugh used to play, and it was to the tune, ‘Try to Remember,’ and it’s Hillary Clinton saying, ‘I don’t remember, my brain’s in a blender.'”

The crowd laughed even louder.

“That was not a proper thing to say because, again, I’m making fun of the mentally impaired and that’s not right,” he said, mockingly.
