Clinton Says She’s Running for the LGBT Teen in NC Who ‘Suddenly Feels Like a Second-Class Citizen’

Back on Trail, First Stop is North Carolina

Returning to the campaign trail Thursday afternoon Hillary Clinton was greeted with loud chants of “Hillary” from North Carolina voters. Clinton talked about the importance of having benefits including sick pay and paid family leave, trouncing Donald Trump for what she called “a half baked plan,” his new child and maternity care plan.

She reflected on her “time off,” saying that while she’s lucky, millions “either go to work sick or they lose a paycheck.”

“They toss back a Tylenol and they chug orange juice. For millions of moms and dads, if they get sick there is no backup. That’s the story of too many people still in America.”

Clinton also reminded her supporters why she’s running.

“I’m running for the LGBT teenager in N.C. who “suddenly feels like a second-class citizen” due to HB2, the anti-LGBT law signed by Gov. Pat McCrory. “This is where bigotry leads and we can’t afford it.”

Clinton also noted, in a swipe at Donald Trump, that she has “rolled out detailed policy in 38 areas,” something Trump has not done. There are only nine areas on Trump’s site.

“I have this old-fashioned notion that if you are running for president you should say what you are going to do, how you are going to get it done and how you are going to pay for it.”

“Like a lot of women,” Clinton added, “I have a tendency to over prepare. I sweat the details.”
