Breaking: Trump to Pay IRS Penalty for $25,000 Political Donation to Florida AG Pam Bondi

Attorney General Was Deciding on Bringing Charges Against Trump University, Chose Not To

Donald Trump is being forced to pay a penalty to the IRS after it was revealed he gave a political donation to a campaign organization that is the political organizational arm of Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi while she was deliberating on bringing charges against Trump University.

The Washington Post and CREW, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, filed a complaint with the IRS alleging that Trump in fact had given a political donation to a group created to help get Bondi re-elected.

“The improper donation, a $25,000 gift from the Donald J. Trump Foundation, was made in 2013. At the time, Attorney General Pam Bondi was considering whether to investigate fraud allegations against Trump University. She decided not to pursue the case,” the Washington Post reports.

“It was just an honest mistake,” Jeffrey McConney, senior vice president and controller at the Trump Organization, said. He added: “It wasn’t done intentionally to hide a political donation, it was just an error.”

As the Post explains, the issue “began when Bondi herself solicited a donation from Trump. That solicitation was reported this year by the Associated Press. That request came as Bondi was considering allegations that Trump University — a real estate seminar business — had defrauded customers in Florida.”
