Breaking: Mike Pence Releases Tax Returns Showing Extremely Low Tax Rate

Indiana GOP Governor Has Low Effective Tax Rate

Mike Pence has just released his taxes, revealing the Indiana Republican governor and his wife paid just 7.9 percent in taxes in 2015. Pence, who unlike Donald Trump joins fellow vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine, has also now released 10 years of returns. Trump has released zero, while Hillary Clinton has released 30 years of returns.

“Pence’s documents show his adjusted gross income peaked in 2009 at around $187,000 and was $113,000 last year,” The Hill reports.

The Pences, according to their 2015 joint tax return, gave $8923 to charity, also amounting to 7.9 percent of their adjusted gross income, the same percent as their effective tax rate, according to a Bloomberg News report. CNN Money also calculated the Pence’s effective tax rate at 8 percent.

The Trump campaign calculated the 2015 effective tax rate at 12.4 percent, which also is very low.

The released returns do not include the names of the charitable organizations Pence and his wife, Karen, donated to.
