‘Why I’m Inspired by Hillary’: Michelle Obama Delivers Strong Speech Supporting Clinton

‘I’m Inspired by Her Lifelong Record of Public Service … And Yes, She Happens to Be a Woman’

First Lady Michelle Obama made the case for a President Hillary Clinton Friday afternoon, telling attendees at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia why she’s “inspired” by the former secretary of state.

“We have the opportunity to elect one of the most qualified people who has ever endeavored to become president,” the First Lady said. “Hillary has been a lawyer, a law professor, First Lady of Arkansas, First Lady of the United States, a U.S. Senator, Secretary of State!,” Obama proclaimed. “You hear me?,” she asked, to a roar.

“See that’s why I’m inspired by Hillary. I’m inspired by her persistence and her consistency. by her heart and her guts. And I’m inspired by her lifelong record of public service. No one in our lifetime has ever had as much experience or exposure to the presidency,” Obama continued. “And yes, she happens to be a woman.”

Speaking about the 2008 election which placed her and her husband, Barack Obama, in the White House, Michelle Obama told her audience what it was like.

“Back then, people had all kinds of questions about what kind of President Barack would be. Things like, ‘Does he understand us?’ ‘Will he protect us?'” she said. And then, of course, there were those who continued to question for the past eight years up through this very day whether my husband was even born in this country,” she shared, not mentioning Donald Trump by name. The crowd roared angrily.

“Well, during his time in office, I think Barack has answered those questions with the example he set by going high when they go low, and he’s answered these questions with progress we’ve achieved together.”

During the earlier portion of her speech, Obama discussed what life for her family is like now, saying both she and her husband will have to get new jobs, and joking that they need to “get the old house cleaned up” so they can get their “security deposit back.”
