Watch: Donald Trump Goes to Mexico, Announces Mexican Americans ‘Are Just Beyond Reproach’

Trump Pulls Massive About Face, Now Believes Mexicans in America Are ‘Beyond Reproach’

Donald Trump tried to stay on script while he spoke to reporters at a joint press event with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto in Mexico City Wednesday afternoon. The Republican nominee told reporters, “I happen to have a tremendous feeling for Mexican Americans,” noting that he has hired many of them. “I have such great respect for them and their strong values of family, faith, community,” Trump added.

“The United States’ first, second and third generation Mexicans are just beyond reproach,” Trump continued, after having spent 14 months calling them “rapists” and criminals.

During the introduction of his campaign last year, Trump announced, Mexico “is not our friend, believe me. When Mexico sends its people, it is not sending its best, it is sending people that have lots of problems.”

“They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, and some I assume are good people, but I speak to border guards and they tell us what we are getting,” Trump said in June of 2015.

Trump today tried to appear presidential, and seemingly opted to literally throw out most of his positions on immigration, the Mexican people, and income inequality, actually saying Americans need a pay raise.

NAFTA must be updated “to reflect the realities of today” so that it “keeps industry in our hemisphere.”

Talking to reporters after his speech, Trump admitted, “We didn’t discuss who pays for the wall.”
