Republican Meg Whitman: Trump Is a ‘Dishonest Demagogue,’ I’m Supporting Hillary Clinton

One of the Most Respected CEOs in History Crosses Party Lines

Meg Whitman, the CEO of tech giant Hewlett Packard, one of the most respected CEOs in history, and a former candidate for governor of California who was named one of the mot-likely women to become president, is a Republican. And she just announced she is going to support Hillary Clinton with her vote, her voice, and with her money.

“I will vote for Hillary, I will talk to my Republican friends about helping her, and I will donate to her campaign and try to raise money for her,” Whitman told The New York Times Tuesday, adding that is is time for Republicans “to put country first before party.”

Why?

Whitman called Republican nominee Donald Trump “a dishonest demagogue,” and, for a CEO who doesn’t often engage in hyperbole, literally warned the existence of the nation is at risk.

“She noted that democracies had seldom lasted longer than a few hundred years and warned that those who say that ‘it can’t happen here’ are being naïve,” the Times reports.

“Ms. Whitman also said she ‘absolutely’ stood by her comments at a private gathering of Republican donors this year comparing Mr. Trump to Hitler and Mussolini, explaining that dictators often come to office through democratic means.”

“Time and again history has shown that when demagogues have gotten power or come close to getting power, it usually does not end well,” Whitman told the paper of record. “She asserted that Mr. Trump had already ‘undermined the character of the nation.'”

Tuesday night Whitman posted this statement to Facebook:
