Republican CIA Veteran Expected to Announce Independent Presidential Run to Challenge Trump

Former CIA Officer Evan McMullin Is Expected to Run for President as an Independent

A former CIA officer who now serves as the chief policy director of the House Republican conference is expected to announce he is running for president as an Independent in a challenge to Donald Trump, according to The Hill and other reports.

Evan McMullin holds a Bachelors of Science from Brigham Young University, and, like Trump, is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business – although with an MBA, not a BS as Trump has. He worked for eight years as an undercover officer beginning in 2001 for the National Clandestine Service. He later became an  investment banker at Goldman Sachs, and in 2013 went to work for Republicans in Congress.

McMullin will have technical challenges getting elected:

Buzzfeed points to this Facebook post from McMullin:

He also wrote on Facebook Aug. 4, “Our country needs leaders who are in it for the right reasons. Leaders who actually understand what makes this nation the hope of the world. Leaders who will unite us and guide us to a prosperous, secure future in which we all share.”
