‘His Health Is Excellent, Especially His Mental Health’

Dr. Harold Bornstein says he wrote the now infamous letter declaring Donald Trump “will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency,” if he wins, in just five minutes as Trump’s limo waited. 

Bornstein, a specialist known as a gastroenterologist tells NBC News in an exclusive interview from his Park Avenue office, that he has been the GOP nominee’s doctor for 35 years. 

“His health is excellent, especially his mental health,” Bornstein says of Trump. 

“If elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency,” Bornstein wrote in his letter, which Trump tweeted this past December. Bornstein told NBC News he has examined Trump every May.

“I like that sentence to be quite honest with you,” Bornstein says, adding, “I think I picked up his kind of language and then just interpreted it to my own.”

Bornstein says he thought about what to write all day, and “I get rushed and I get anxious when I get rushed.”

NBC reports that Bornstein is a fan of the Manhattan billionaire.

“I like Donald Trump because I think he likes me,” he says.
