4 in 10 Trump Supporters Polled in North Carolina Agree With Trump: Hillary Clinton Is ‘The Devil’

Pollster Says ‘There’s a Cult Like Aspect to Trump’s Supporters’

Last week Donald Trump, in the wake of a hugely successful Democratic Convention and impacted by a flood of polls showing Hillary Clinton beating him – many by double digits – made many outlandish claims. Among them, he dangerously claimed to have seen a non-existent video of $400 million in cash being given to Iran as ransom for American hostages, the election will be rigged, and Hillary Clinton is “the devil.”

In a just-released poll from Public Policy Polling of voters in North Carolina, where Trump will speak Tuesday afternoon, four in ten Trump supporters (41%) agree with the Republican nominee, and say Hillary Clinton is “the devil.” The devil does not exist.

Seven in ten Trump supporters (69%) agree if Hillary Clinton wins the election, it will have been “rigged,” and 40 percent of Trump supporters say if she wins it will be because ACORN rigged it. ACORN has not existed since 2010.

Nearly half (47%) of Trump’s North Carolina supporters say they too saw the supposed video of $400 million on a plane in Iraq being exchanged for American service members, even though Trump later effectively somewhat admitted he did not see the video and his spokesperson acknowledged it was just Fox News b-roll. In other words, the video does not exist.

We’ve been writing for almost a year that there’s a cult like aspect to Trump’s supporters, where they’ll go along with anything he says,” Public Policy Polling reports. “Trump made some of his most outlandish claims and statements yet last week, but we continue to find that few in his support base disavow them.”

But on the plus side, the PPP poll does find Hillary Clinton now leading in North Carolina, 47-46 against Trump, the first time since March.
