Trump Claims ‘Sarcasm’ After Calling on Russia to Engage in Espionage Against Clinton (Video)

Republican Nominee Said Russia Should Hack Clinton’s Email Account

After severe blowback from all sides Wednesday, Donald Trump took to Fox News Thursday morning in the 6 AM hour to try to fix his call on Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s email account. The Republican presidential nominee told “Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade, “Of course I was being sarcastic,” even though Trump had rambled on about it in a lengthy and scattered press conference Wednesday morning, and followed up with an expanded call via Twitter.

“It would be interesting to see, I will tell you this, Russia, if you’re listening I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Trump, speaking directly to Russia, had told reporters Wednesday. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

On Thursday, Trump tried to deflect attention from comments former CIA Director and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta called “inconceivable” and “irresponsible.”

“They have no idea if it’s Russia, if it’s China, if it’s somebody else,” Trump told Kilmeade. “Who knows who it is?”

Fox News did their best to shore up the Republican candidate, with a lead-up to his interview that attacked the Democratic National Convention for mentioning Trump, they claimed, more than the Republican National Convention had mentioned Hillary Clinton, concluding Democrats are “nervous.”
