Trump Official Blames Clinton for Dallas Shooting; Other Supporters Call for ‘Race War’

Corey Stewart is Candidate’s Virginia Campaign Chair

Corey Stewart, the chairman of Donald Trump’s Virginia campaign, blamed Hillary Clinton for “encouraging” the murder of the police officers killed in Dallas on Thursday night.

“Liberal politicians who label police as racists — specifically Hillary Clinton and Virginia Lt. Governor Ralph Northam — are to blame for essentially encouraging the murder of these police officers tonight,” Stewart wrote on Facebook.

Trump’s national campaign condemned Stewart’s post, which has since been deleted, in a statement to The New York Times.

“Corey does not speak for the campaign and this is not something we agree with,” Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks said.

More from the NYT:

Donald Trump Jr., Mr. Trump’s son, also has been active on social media since the shooting, retweeting Joe Walsh, the former congressmen and current radio host, sharing a news article that reported that Black Lives Matter protesters had been calling for the killing of police officers on Twitter.

The post was one of many Mr. Walsh has been sharing that have been fraught with racial tensions, and attempting to put blame on the Black Lives Matter movement and President Obama for the shootings.

Meanwhile, Mother Jones reports that some of Trump’s Facebook followers are calling for a “race war” in the wake of the attack that left five officers dead. The comments were posted below Trump’s statement on the shooting:

Clinton appeared on both CNN and MSNBC on Friday afternoon to discuss the shootings, which prompted both candidates to postpone rallies today.
