Rumors Surface of a Mike Huckabee Run for Governor – of Florida

Huckabee ‘Is the Conscience of the Republican Party’ Says Florida Republican

Former Arkansas governor and repeatedly failed presidential candidate Mike Huckabee could be considering another election bid, this time for governor of Florida. Rumors of a potential 2018 run are unconfirmed, but Florida senate candidate Matt Gaetz recently said, “Mike Huckabee is beloved in Northwest Florida. He could count on a lot of support from this area if (he) were to seek public office again.

Huckabee “is said to be eyeing a run for the governor’s mansion in 2018,” FloridaPolitics.com reports, citing “two prominent Florida Republicans with statewide cachet (one a top-ranking lobbyist, the other a well-known member of the Florida Legislature).”

Huckabee was governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007, and moved on to a presidential run in 2008, losing the nomination to John McCain. He ran again in 2016, dropping out of the race in February after his Adele cover failed to win him the state. Between his two presidential bids, he hosted a Fox News show called “Huckabee.” If he runs, he could be the second governor to be elected in two states after Sam Houston.

The former governor was one of this year’s primary candidates to attend a National Religious Liberties Conference in Iowa. The event was hosted by Kevin Swanson, who called for the execution of gay people in his event’s speech. Bobby Jindal and Ted Cruz also attended that event.

Huckabee has stated that he would have claimed to be transgender when he was in high school to harass his female classmates in the locker room, pledged to boycott Doritos because of their limited-edition rainbow chips sold to support LGBT youth while calling a boycott of Chick-fil-A “economic terrorism,” and has promised to ignore the Supreme Court’s rulings on marriage and abortion rights.

He has asked publicly whether the left is “in an alliance with Islam because they both share a common enemy.” Huckabee also encouraged civil disobedience from gun owners in the event of gun control measures and warned of a cover-up after a scandal claiming the IRS targeted conservative groups was debunked.

Gaetz is quoted as saying that Huckabee, “is the conscience of the Republican Party.”
