Police Identify Dallas Shooter as 25-Year-Old Micah Xavier Johnson

Deceased Suspect Had No Known Criminal Record, Terrorist Ties

Dallas police have identified the suspect in a a shooting that killed five officers as 25-year-old Micah Xavier Johnson, a resident of the suburb of Mesquite. 

Authorities say Johnson had no known criminal record or terrorist ties, according to CNN. 

“A neighbor said there are police cars outside Johnson’s home. Wayne Bynoe, the neighbor, told CNN that Johnson lived with his mother and “keeps to himself,'” CNN reported. 

Johnson told police he was acting alone before they used an explosive device to kill him. Dallas police Chief David Brown said Johnson told negotiators he was “upset about Black Lives Matter” and “wanted to kill white people.”

Three other suspects have been taken into custody but are not cooperating with police. 

According to NBCDFW.com,  a black SUV found at the scene of the shootings was listed as registered to Delphene Johnson, also of Mesquite, but there’s on the relationship between the two.

According to Alex Horton, a reporter for the military newspaper Stars and Stripes, Johnson was an Army veteran. Reuters, meanwhile, said he was a member of the Army Reserve:
