GOP Platform Subcommittee Passes Amendment Calling for Bible to Be Taught as Historical Document
Also Calls for Overturning Historic Obergefell Marriage Decision, Legislating Transgender Restroom Usage
Members of the Republican National Committee are meeting this week to draft the 2016 GOP platform, and it’s clear they’ve learned nothing about Americans after losing the White House by large margins in 2008 and 2012.Â
Late Monday morning members of a platform subcommittee voted to pass an amendment that calls for the teaching of the Christian Bible to students as a historical document that is part of American history.

Also passed are amendments that effectively call for overturning the Supreme Court’s Obergefell decision on same-sex marriage, by leaving marriage up to the states, and one that calls for legislating the use of public restrooms by transgender people to be limited to the gender they were assigned at birth.

There is expected to be an amendment denouncing the Obama administration’s guidance calling for transgender students to be treated equally.

TIME’s political reporter Zeke Miller notes that Family Research Council president Tony Perkins just met with RNC Chairman Reince Priebus to try to get an amendment endorsing harmful, anti-LGBT “conversion therapy” into the platform.Â
.@Reince meeting with @tperkins on margins of platform meeting was about Perkins’ call to endorse ‘conversion therapy.’

Another extremist amendment passed, one that calls for the elimination of any government intervention in parenting, which would allow parents to beat their children, keep them unvaccinated, and even not educate them.
It seems the proposed Parental Rights Amendment to the Constitution was just endorsed by GOP platform subcommittee https://t.co/ytCftytvTX
