Presumptive GOP Nominee Responds to Supreme Court Justice’s Comments About His Campaign

Donald Trump says Ruth Bader Ginsburg should leave the Supreme Court “as soon as possible.” The presumptive GOP nominee responded to remarks against his campaign made by the Supreme Court justice by calling her comments “highly inappropriate.”

Ginsburg had said in an interview with The New York Times that were Trump to win the White House it would be time to move out of the country.

“I can’t imagine what this place would be — I can’t imagine what the country would be — with Donald Trump as our president,” Justice Ginsburg had told the Times in an interview published Sunday. “For the country, it could be four years. For the court, it could be — I don’t even want to contemplate that.”

“‘Now it’s time for us to move to New Zealand,’” Justice Ginsburg had said, quoting her late husband.

In an interview with the Times, Trump claimed, “it’s highly inappropriate that a United States Supreme Court judge gets involved in a political campaign, frankly.”

“I think it’s a disgrace to the court and I think she should apologize to the court. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it,” Trump claimed. “That she should be saying that? It’s so beneath the court for her to be making statements like that. It only energizes my base even more. And I would hope that she would get off the court as soon as possible.”

Ginsburg, who is 83, has made clear she will serve on the Supreme Court as long as she can do it “full steam.” She has successfully battled cancer twice, most recently in 2009 when she had surgery for pancreatic cancer.

In a subsequent interview with CNN, Justice Ginsburg called Trump a “faker.”

“He has no consistency about him. He says whatever comes into his head at the moment. He really has an ego,” she said. “How has he gotten away with not turning over his tax returns? The press seems to be very gentle with him on that.”

“Every other presidential candidate has turned over tax returns,” Justice Ginsburg added, and lamenting that Trump “has gotten so much free publicity.”
