Watch: Samantha Bee Takes on the GOP and Their Puppet-Masters, the NRA
“There’s nothing like getting shot to put you on the side of gun control,” Samantha Bee says. “So, at this rate, most Americans will come around in the next year or two.”
Samantha Bee Monday night took on the GOP and those who control them, the National Rifle Association. The “Full Frontal” host reminded the Party of Lincoln that their first President, Abraham Lincoln, died by a gun, that Ronald Reagan, their saint, supported gun control, and President George H.W. Bush decades ago renounced his NRA lifetime membership.
Bee also mocked Senate Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for admitting he’s just a “puppet” of the NRA, saying, “I can’t imagine that the leader of the Senate majority would admit to being a puppet of the NRA in a televised interview.” Of course, McConnell did just that, when he explained why he would not allow the Senate to vote on President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee – because he wasn’t NRA-approved.
“Rodent-faced soup sponge” Ted Cruz was also on Bee’s list of Republicans to mock, after the Texas Tea Party Senator insisted the Orlando shooting “is not a gun control issue,” but “a terrorism issue.” He also called the Democrats’ 15-hour filibuster “political gamesmanship,” while ignoring his infamous “Green Eggs & Ham” filibuster. Bee noted that during the Democrats’ 15-hour filibuster to advance gun control, 48 Americans were shot.
“There’s nothing like getting shot to put you on the side of gun control,” Bee tells her audience while speaking about Ronald Reagan’s change of heart on the NRA and gun control. “So, at this rate, most Americans will come around in the next year or two.”
